Busy Weekend for United

Yes it was a hectic weekend in many ways for Brideview with three of our teams U12, U14, and U16’s all in action on Saturday.  Add in the academy also on Saturday so I’m sure managers and coaches put their feet up late on Saturday night.

Then on Friday night a big number of locals made the trip to the RSC for the blues victory and presentation.  Just the one girl was in this large gang but Lucy enjoyed the craic.

U12 Premier League Sponsored by Amber Service Station Fermoy

Brideview Utd. 45 Castlebridge Celtic 0

A strong wind here did not help either side to play great football.  It favoured the visitors in the opening half but the home-sides defence and keeper stood firm.  At the break the sides were scoreless.  The wind was behind United in the second half and it gave our lads a great advantage.  Stephan Murphy set up Aidan Murphy to open the scoring in the 46th min. Joseph McDonnell made it 2-0 in the 50th minute.  Joe Morrissey set up Taylor Twohig in the 58th minute to put Utd. 3-0 in front

Then a piece of magic in the 58th min. from Stephan Murphy.  Celtics keeper had come out from goal and Murphy sent in a marvellous chip that beat the keeper and ended up in the net.  This was the final score and Utd. ran out winners 4-0.

This was a great performance from our lads.  Keeper Alex Good kept a clean sheet with some good saves.  His defence of Harvey Hagon Lee, Joe Morrissey, Luka Tobin and Joseph McDonnell gave Celtics front men very little room on the ball.

Taylor Twohig, Conor Henley, Stephan Murphy and Ben Grey kept Celtics defence on its toes.  Aidan Murphy and Billy Murphy both came on at the break and played their part here in this victory. So well done boys

Utd. A.Good, H.Hagon Lee, J. Morrissey, J. McDonnell, T. Twohig, L.Tobin, S. Murphy, C. Henley, B. Grey, A. Murphy, B. Murphy.

The O’Rourke Family U17 League
Hat Trick for McGrath

Utds U17 team were the only team in action on Saturday as National Cup games were taking place in many local grounds and referees were tied up at these games.  We congratulate many of the local clubs who won their games and many of the clubs went down by the odd goal.

U17 League
McGrath on Fire
Brideview Utd 6, Lismore 2
A local derby here and the home side ran out winners.  Lismore were short a few players here for this one.  Utd led 3-1 at the break.  The second half saw Utd get on top and we added three further goals to just another goal for the visitors to see Utd run out winners in this our first round of the league.  Utd’s target men were Eoin McGrath who scored a hat trick his second was a fine header from a Jake Chambers cross.  His first came from the penalty spot.  Mark Dalton scored twice for Utd with Josh Sheehan also getting on the score sheet.

Utd: T. Dalton, W. Cunningham, J. Chambers, D. Beecher, C. Hurley, P. Hynes, K. Crawford, B. Aherne, J. Sheehan, E. McGrath, M. Dalton.
Res all used: J. Almeida, D. Costello, E, Lenehan .

We are going up
Yes the Blues are back in the Premier division after ten years.  The blues won on Friday night in Wexford backed by 700 supporters.  Then the wait till Saturday evening for Ramblers results.  The Ramblers were defeated so the blues are champions with two games to go. What a crowd should be at the RSC on Friday night next as they face Longford and the final game away to Cobh. The supporters club will have some of the old faces like Tommy Jackson, Johnny Mathews, Paul Kirk, Sid Wallace and Brian Gardiner along with some of the u17 winning league team and hopefully some of the blues winning squad up in the west on Saturday October 14th.  We will have more on this later.  Time will be short so Dungarvan and Villierstown may be the venues in the west due to a function in The Woodlands Hotel in that night.  I have been asked to mention all tickets for this function are now sold out..

Kilcohan Park.
A night at the dogs on Friday 13th October will see the likes of the older players that I have mentioned as well as some of the present hosting tables.  Tickets are €50 including a four course meal.  Interested give Liam Frazer a ring on 087/4661438.

Managers Meeting
A managers meeting of Bridewiew Utds managers of schoolboy teams for the coming season took place on Saturday night last.  While the club will have teams at U8’s, U9’s, u10’s, U11’s, u12’s, u14’s and U16’s for the coming season we do need some help with the above teams.  We do hope to have some new faces on board once everyone is Garda vetted and Kick Start one course done.   A Kick Start one will take place in Cappoquin on Saturday 30th September at 9.30am.  A Kick Start two will take place in November.  A venue and date have yet to be confirmed.

Hi Mickie
Yes home at the moment and enjoying the break is Mickie Davis of Barrack St.  No doubt the sister is taking good care of him.  Right Mickie.

The Twins
The twins Dinny and Andy Cunningham celebrated their birthdays on Friday last.  The lads look way younger than their years.  Both are terrific singers and have been known to entertain the locals many times.  The party in Clancys was an all ticket affair and I understand the walkers got no tickets.  Ha! Ha! Andy still has them in his jacket.

Fixtures for Saturday next 23rd September
In Leonard Frazer Park Tallow.
U12 Premier Division: Brideview Utd V Castlebridge Celtic, K.off 11am.
U14 Premier Division: Brideview Utd V Ballybridge Utd, K.off 12.30pm
U16 League In Lismore: Lismore V Brideview Utd K.off, 2pm.

All players to get group texts during the week.

Sympathy
The club extends its deepest sympathy to The Ahern family Tallow and Conna on the sad passing of Kay, May she rest in peace.

Sympathy also to The O’Neill family West St. on the sad passing of Sean.  May he rest in peace.

Brideview Utd. AFC Schoolboy/Girl Notes

It’s Back to the Field.

Yes this coming weekend will see clubs kicking off their league programmes.  A meeting on this Thursday night will sort out games as at the moment there seems to be a double surrounding some fixtures.

The schoolboy league has some new sponsors this season and we have some new ideas regarding the sponsorship.  They will be some games against different teams this season and much of this will be sorted out on Thursday night.

U17 League

The U17 League kicks off on Saturday and hopefully we will be up there as the season progresses.  There is a lot going on as I have said behind the scenes but it should make for a very interesting season ahead.

This weekend will see many SFAI cup fixtures taking place.  Maybe if we knew earlier that we would have some new players with us this season then we could have looked a t putting some teams into these competitions.

Actors

Two of the clubs managers are now taking up their true calling as it were.  Yes, James and William have answered the calling and are not going to be threading the boards as (actors)!! They will be appearing on stage in November and already most of the shows are sold out!!!! Right lads Ha! Ha!

Big Games

The republic of Irelands u19 side will play three games in Waterford between October 4th  and 10th,  we face Azerbaijan, Cyprus and yes Serbia.

Also taking place in the RSC Waterford will be the Mark Farren Cup final, between Waterford FC and Sligo Rovers.  This game takes place on Saturday September 23rd at 2pm.

Bad Week

Yes for sports fans in Waterford it was a bad week.  It began on the Saturday with a game against Georgia and we will say no more on that! Going down to Galway in the Hurling All Ireland on Sunday and then on Tuesday Ireland going down to Serbia.  Yes it sure was a bad week but we all have to look forward.

The Blues

Waterford Fc are away in Wexford on this Friday night and then a home game against Longford town under Tottenham striker Neale Fenn who are being a good run of league results since Fenn took over as manager.

Fixtures for Saturday 16th of September

All Ireland Final

This week is a particularly special week to be penning the club notes. The excitement and buzz is clearly evident throughout the county with flags, signs and banners dotted all over - a clear indication of the support for our senior hurlers going into Sunday's All Ireland hurling final against Galway. We haven't been in a final since 2008 - one which we would rather forget. The last time Waterford were victorious was in 1959 when they defeated Kilkenny in a replay.

Two Cup Finals
What a weekend we have comming up with our U12's and U16's both in cup finals.  Add in the clubs auction on Sunday night in The corner House and the academy day on Saturday then it sure is one of those weekends.

Results: Blackwater Motors Fermoy U16 League.
Valley Rangers 2 Blackwater United 0
For both teams it was a case of fullfilling a fixture as Lismore won the League last week.  For Blackwater it was a good game as they prepare for a cup final against North Cork side Kilworth.  Rangers opened the scoring in the 11th min.  Fogarty, Wright and Walsh all went close to getting an equaliser.  However Rangers went in Leading 1-0 at the break
The second half was keenly fought with both sides giving 100%.  United made four changes at the break but it was Rangers who increased their lead to 2-0.  United lads tried hard to pull a goal back but Rangers held our for a victory.  Manager Sham Ronayne was pleased with the boys performance as we were short some players on the night.
Training will have taken place on Tuesday night and hopefully all players will report fully fit.

Utd's squad all played: D.Beecher, J.Chambers, W.Cunningham, E.Mansfield, J.Osbourne, E.Walsh, G.Fives, J.Sheehan, M.Fogarty, B.Wright, J.Almeida, J.O'Hara, C.Hurley, D.Byrne.

DB Sport Tours u12 Cup Semi-Final
Brideview Utd 0 Cappoquin 0,
Extra time 1-0
What a game we had in Tallow on Thursday night last and the crowd were kept on their toes throughout this game.  The sad part is some side has to win and someone has to loose.  The game itself saw both sides play open attacking football.  Henley, Potter and Lenehan went close for Utd in the opening fifteen minutes at the other end young Alex Good made a fine save to deny the visitors.
Utds defence of Hurley, Martin, O'Brien and Good kept the visitors front men on a tight rein.  Murphy had a great shot just go wide before the half time whistle.  Scoreless at the break.  The second half began at a frantic pace.  Murphy and Lenehan tested Cappoquins keeper.  Henley shot over before Good again rescued United.  The final whistle sounded with the sides still scoreless.
Extra time come and it was plain to see that perhaps one goal would win this game.  So it came to pass and for United Stephan Murphy popped up to score a terrific goal and put Utd into a cup final.

Utd's squad all played: Alex Good, Ian Martin, Alen Hurley, William Kenneally, Stephan Murphy, Conor Henley, Jack Mc Donnell, Chris Bowes, Eoin Potter, Cian O'Brien, Ciarán  Lenehan, Josh Good.

Sympathy
The club extends its deepest sympathy to The Daly family of Park Youghal and Parkdota Tallow on the sad passing of John.  May he rest in peace.

Well Done
To Alex Good and Stephan Murphy who brought the plate home from The Cork Cup.  A great weekend for the boys who were on the U11 Development squad.  Well done lads.

DB Sport Cup Finas
Our two cup finals take place in Cobh Ramblers ground on next Monday.  Our U12's at 12 o'clock while our U16's play Kilworth at 2pm.  We would ask as many supporters to travel to Cobh and give the lads your support.

Birthday Greetings
To Ann Tobin who celebrated her 50th birthday on Saturday night last.  The crowd enjoyed the night with some of the lads stepping it out on the floor.

Tallow 0-7 Ballyduff Upper 0-13
Our senior hurlers played their first game of the 2017 season on Saturday evening last in Ballyduff. Conditions were ideal for hurling in our fist league game. It was a low scoring encounter in which Ballyduff made better use of possession to comfortably secure points. Both teams were not at full strength on the day!

U21
We are choosing not to dignify the petty comment on the Shamrocks notes last week with a full response as this is not the appropriate forum to deal with such matters.

Auction Night
A date for the social diary folks....the club are holding an auction night in Lizzies on July 8th. We will have some details on some very interesting items for auction in the coming months. This coincides with the visit of Naomh Colimcille from Tyrone so it will be a busy weekend for the club. Watch this space!!

Vandalism
It comes to our attention that the dugouts in the pitch are being used as a late night drinking den. The dugouts have been destroyed with a litany of cans, bottles and rubbish in general. If this continues it will result in the locking of the field at night. It is a shame that it has come to this but it will have to be done unless it stops immediately. Such deplorable behaviour can not and will not be tolerated.

League Quarter Final
After securing an away victory over Clare last Sunday, Waterford senior hurlers will play Galway, in Pearse Stadium, in the Allianz National League Quarter Final. We wish them the very best of luck!! Throw in is at 4pm

Utd Reach Semi Final
In what was a busy weekend for our schoolboys we saw our U12 team reach the cup Semi-Final whil our academy U8's and U10's were also in action.

DB Sports Tours U12 Cup Quarter Final
Valley Rangers 1, Brideview Utd 3
While Rangers were short some regulars here they turned in a terrific performance before going down to a very strong United side.  Utd took the game to Rangers and Sterphan Murphy was on target twice for them inside the oopening ten minutes.  At the break Utd led 2-0.  Rangers were back in the game when they pulled a goal back in the very first minute of the second half.  Josh Good restored Utd's two goal lead in the 43rd min.  Jack McDonnell and Murphy went close to increasing Utd's lead but Rangers keeper was in top form.  Utd's keeper Good was called into action in the 48th min and got down well to deny Rangers.  Utd's defence of Martin, O'Brien and Hurley kept the homesides forwards at bay while Lenehan, Potter and Good all played well.  McCarthy was in top form up front and McDonnell, Henley, and Kenneally all played their part in helping Utd reach a semi-final.  So Rangers did score a second with just a few minutes remaining Utd held out.  So well done boys.

Utds Squad all played: A. Good, I. Martin, C. O'Brien, A. Hurley, W. Kenneally, C. Henley, C. McCarthy, C. Lenehan, J. McDonnell, E. Potter, J. Good.

The club extends its deepest sympathy to The O'Keeffe family Ballynoe and Cockpit Lane, Tallow on the sad passing of James.  May he rest in peace.
Our sympathy also to The Tobin Family, Ballmote on the sad passing in America of Kathleen Heffernan (nee Kenneally).  May she rest in peace.
Also to The Barry Family, Townspark East on the sad passing of Eugene.  May he rest in peace.

Big night in the Aviva
Yes this Friday night will see a full house cheering on the boys in green against Wales.  Without Duffy and Brady it could be a tough game.  Can we halt Garet Bale that could prove vital on the night.  We will wait and see.  A hugh number of local fans are making the trip.  Friday night suits the country pwople and indeed many of them are making a weekend visit to the capital.  Lets hope for a good result.

The Blues
A large number of new Blues supporters are travelling to The RSC to cheer on Waterford FC.  No doubt the group will be led by Michael Delaney.

Three FAI INternational Football Awards
Many local soccor fans were interested in these awards on Sunday night last with Jason Mulumby in the U17 Player of the year award which was a great honour.  While Jason did not win I'm sure his day for winning an awardos not far off.
A girl with local connections in both Lismore and in West St, Tallow, Karen Duggan won her award in player of the year for the senior ladies soccor team.
Well done to both Jason and Karen.

It was a very busy weekend as we had three academy teams in action plus our U16 Blackwatr Utd in action.  For once the weather was terrific and everyone enjoyed themselves.

Both teams served up a terrific game with plenty of goals.  Our scorers here were Tadhg McCormack (5), Isaac Almedia (4), Sean Mangan (3), Ben Sheehan (2), Ryan Whelan (1), and Adam Pratt (1).  So all the boys were on the scoresheet here with both sides scoring plenty of goals.

We had a number of regulars missing here for this game.  However we went in front when Bernard Wright found the net early in the game. Ramblers came back into the game and went 3-1 in front before Eddie Walsh made it 3-2.  The home side went in leading 4-2 at the break. Ramblers added three more in the second half to run our easy winners on the day.

Subway Championships
Interleagues Take Centre Stage

The terible weather saw all schoolboy games cancelled but we had plenty of action at Interleague level with our U11's, U12's and U13's all in action.  Our club was well representted in all age groups at U11's who took on Wexford, we had Alex Good and Stephan Murphy.  Alex was the goalkeeper and brought off some terrific saves while at the other end Stephan Murphy scored twice.
We had Ciaran Lenehan and Eoin Potter in action against Cork in the U12's Interleague.  This game took place in cork and both Ciaran and Eoin did well despite going down to Cork.
In the U13's Interleague we had Shane Martin and Joke O'Brien in action.  O'Brien was unlucky not to find the net against Waterford but the keeper denied him.  At the other end Keeper Shane Martin brought off a double save in the game against Cork.
Overall our players can feel well pleased with themselves and again thanks to the parents over the weekend on what was a terrible windy Sunday.

Walking
One of the lical wags could do with pulling the car further in off the road and tying up the dogs as well.  I understand two local walkers got a fright when the two dogs came at them.  Luckly the walkers were fast and able to get away.  Right L.  Ha! Ha!

U 11 Academy: Brideview Utd V Inch K. Off 11 O'Clock.

W.W.E.C. Schoolboy Notes: Cork advance to the final.
The second series of games in The Subway sponsored u13's Championship took place in The W.I.T Carriganore astro turf pitches on Sunday last and Cork advanced to the final.  Our Interleague team had two games the first against a Cork side and then against Waterford.

Results: Cork 5, W.W.E.C. 0.
The strong wind did not do either side any good here as it made good football very difficult.  However the result does not do justice to our lads who despite going two goals down in the opening ten minutes kept Cork at bay for the remaining part of the first half.  Conor Meade did bring off a marvellous save shen the Cork Striker looked certain to score at the break Cork led 2-0.  They added a third five minutes into the second half.   Shane Martin had replaced Meade in goal at the break and he brought off a double save a few minutes later.  At the other end Murphy shot just went wide.  Then in the final three minutes of the game with our lads pressing forward we were caught on the break and Cork scored twice in as many minutes.  For our lads it was our first defeat in this championship.

W.W.E.C. squad here and all played: Shane Martin, Conor Meade, Kevin O'Nell, Eoin McGrath, Aidan Mansfield, Marc O'Mahoney, Kieran Sheridan, Rory Tobin Allen, Billy McGann, David Skeehan, Jack Murphy, Shane O'Connor, Patrick Daly, Jake O'Brien, Bailey Stuart.

Result: Waterford 3, W.W.E.C. 1
With the strong wind to our backs we took the game to Waterford with Jake O'Brien very unlucky in the third minute not to find the net.  With just 5 minutes remaining Waterford found the net and added a second four minutes later to go in leading 2-0 at the break.  Three minutes into the second half our keeper Andrew O'Connor saved a penalty and this lifted our lads who piled on the pressure on the Waterford defence.  A penalty to our lads saw Dave Skeehan step up and shoot into the corner giving the Cork Keeper no chance.  It was now all to play for and Barry O'Connor and Flanaghan all went close to grabbing an equaliser.  Pressing forward we were caught with two minutes remaining as Waterford grabbed their third and this time there was no way back for our lads.

W.W.E.C. Squad all played: Andrew O'Connor, Marc Callinan, Johnathan Swayne, Cian Doyle, Fionn Coakley, Ben O'Connor, Alex Bowes, Niall Flanaghan, Charley Foley, David Barry, Kevin O'neill Jake O'Brien, Jack Murphy, Kieran Sheridan, Save Skeehan, Bailey Stuart, Rory Tobin Allen.
Overall the managers can feel happy with the boys over the two weekends and they will be faced with a problem as to what players to leave out going forward.  On behalf of the league committee I would like to thank the players, managers, parents and guardians who transported the boys to Waterford.  Well done to everyone involved here.

Subway u13 Intrleague Championship Result.
Cork 5, W.W.E.C. 0
Waterford 3, South Tipp 0
Watrford 3, WWEC 1
South Tipp 1, West Cork 0
Cork 4, West Cork 0

Our friends in Tyrone, Naomh Columcille are sending a team to Tallow in July for a tournament and coaching. More information in the coming months

County WaterfordAssociation & Waterford Hurling Club of New York to honour Maura Bermingham (nee Prendergast) and Angela Allen.
Our congratulations to Maura and Angela who will be honoured at the annual Waterford Dinner Dance in New York on March 18th.
Maura, daughter of Mike Prendergast and the late Mary Prendergast (nee Fahy) is being celebrated for her continued support of the Waterford Hurling Club and Association. A member most of her adult life, her interest and participation has cumulated in her present position of Secretary of the Waterford Hurling Club NY.

Maura has played a supporting role in coordinating the annual dances, proudly marches in the annual St. Patrick's Day parades, and is a fervent supporter of Waterford Hurling both at home and in New York.. She is presently a Committee Member of the Thomas Francis Meagher 150' Anniversary Ceremony, being held on July 1, 2017. The Prendergast family are great supporters of Tallow GAA and Local community organisations over many years. Maura’s father Mike is vice President of Tallow GAA club. She is following in the footsteps of her dad Mike and late mum Mary who were honoured by the NY Waterford Association in the past.

Angela, well known to us all, hails from Kilwatermoy. . She is the eldest daughter of Eugene and Jenny Allen and has two sisters Maureen and Veronica. Angela arrived in New York for the World Cup in the summer of 1991,fell in love with the city and decided to stay. She is the current treasurer of the Waterford Association and an avid supporter of  Gaelic Games, and as her golfing partners will attest, she is "long off the tee". Angela’s regular trips home are usually timed to coincide with Waterford championship games. Two of her nephews have represented Waterford at underage and adult level, not forgetting her uncle Billy Tobin who was a hurling legend back in the day.

We would also like to congratulate Modeligo native Matty Cashman who is being honoured by the Waterford Hurling Club NY with the Clubman of the Year award.
Its indeed a fitting honour for these two ladies who have made a significant contribution to the sporting and cultural life of  the Waterford Diaspora in New York. Many of us will remember the late 70s and 80s when young Waterford people were flocking to New York. With stricter immigration regulations the Waterford community in New York is much diminished now in terms of numbers. Great credit is due to those who keep the Waterford Association and GAA still vibrant in New York.  People like John Phelan, Tom Fahey, Mike Prendergast, Denny Fahey Jim Cullinane ,Peter A. McKay, Patricia Duggan, Bobby Power ,Leigh Mulhearne, Eileen Carey ,Paddy Power, keep the flag flying  and we salute their efforts.  Apologies if I’ve omitted someone.

To commemorate the occasion a Souvenir Journal will be published. If you wish to show support for our fellow county men and women in New York and congratulate the honourees you can do so by emailing This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. Journal ads are available for $60 (half page) $100 (full page).

Thrilling game in Cappoiquin
The local derby U16 game between Blackwater Utd and Lismore proved to be a tough one between these sides to see who would have the bragging rights in Blackwater School in Lismore on Monday.  Our academy games went ahead but our U11 game was called off while our U16 game was transferred to Cappoquin.

Results: Blackwater Motors Fermoy U16 League
Blackwater Utd 0, Lismore 1
This local derby lived up to its billing as it was a tough but for most part sporting game although we did see three red cards and all of them to the homeside.  Utd were first to attack with Lommano whose shot went across the goal and wide.  The only goal of the game came in the 11th min when the visitors beat the offside trap to score at the break Lismore led 1-0.  The second half saw both teams play open attacking football with both keepers called into action several times.  Sheehan put Wright in after 43min but the Lismore keeper got down well to save what looked like a certain goal.  Two minutes later it was O'Connors turn to save well,  Five's had a fine effort to over in the 60th min and the same player was unlucky when from a Chambers corner his marvellous header just went over.  Utd pushed forward and Jogarty shot over in the 71st min.  The final five minutes saw three of Utds players shown a red card but at this stage Lismore despite comming under pressure holding our for all three league points.

Utds squad all played: Robbie O'Connor, Jake Chambers, Jack Osbourne, Evan Mansfield, Dean Beecher, Gavin Fives, Killian O'Connor, Louie Lommano, Josh Sheehan, Michael Fogarty,  Bernard Wright, Willism Cunningham, Dylan Byrne, Diarmuid Costello, Nathan Smith, Joas Almeida.

Academy Games
Our U9 side took on Castlebridge Blues on Saturday Morning last.  Our scorers here were Lee Guildea (4), Sean Mangan (3), and Tadhg McCormack (1)
Utds squad: Darragh O'Brien, Tadhg McCormack, Sean Mangan, Lee Guildea, Daniel Henley, Lucas Madea

Our U9 Yellows took on Lismore and here we had Ryan Whelan scoring eight goals, Ben Sheehan (6), and Isaac Almeida (1), scoring in a very high scoring game.
Utds Yellows: Ben Sheehan Ryan Wheelan, Adam Pratt, Gordan Murphy, Michael Murphy, Isaac Almeida.

Busy Weekend for Utd
It was a very busy Saturday for the club with five teams in action.  What we do not think of sometimes are the managers and assistant managers who give up their time to manage these bous and girls.  Anyway lads well done and I know the parents would say the same.  Results on the field did not go as planned with both our U12 and U14 teams suffering defeats.  Our U8 team played at home while both our U10 teams were in action in Lismore.

Results: Hillbillys @ Amber Service Station Fermoy U14 League
Brideview Utd 1, Clashmore Ramblers 4
Utd took the game to Ramblers early on and Mark Dalton put us in front after just 3 mins.  Both defences got on top after this.  Ramblers were back on level terms in the 20th min.  An overhead kick by Mark Dalton saw Ramblers Keeper bring off a fine save.  The keeper denied Hurley after the 35th minute and at the break the sides were level at 1-1.  Two goals inside the opening ten minutes of the second half saw Ramblers go in front and at this stage they were well on top.  Ramblers added a fourth after 25 min and at this stage it looked as if the visitors would run away with the game.
However Utd fought back and will rue the chances they missed in the final 15 min.  First off was Cian Hurley whose shot was headed off the goal line after 67 min.  Three minutes later Jake O'Brien was in on goal but somehow his shot went across the goal and wide.  In the 71st min Tom Dalton had a fineshot deflected out for a corner.  The same player was in again a minute later but the keeper somehow put his effort out for the corner.  Eolan Costello was again denied by the keeper.  The whistle sounded soon after a very entertaining game.  Our own keeper Shane Martin brought off some great saves here and could not be faulted for any of the goals.

Utd Squad all played: Shane Martin, Alan Hurley, Eolan Costello, Darragh Spillane, Cian O'Brien, Stephen Roche, Tom Dalton, Jack McDonnell, Alex O'Dowd, Cian Hurley, Jake O'Brien, Callum McCathy, Mark Dalton.

Aura Leisure Centre Youghal U12 League 1st Division
Brideview Utd 0, Cappoquin 3
Cappoquin have the advantage going into the second leg at home.  Eoin Potter (a flu victim) was missed here but Utd did miss a few chances with Ciaran Lenehan, Stephan Murphy, and Josh Good all going close to scoring for United.  On the day the visitors took their chances and this was the big difference between the sides.  Cappoquin will now be strong favourites to advance to the final especially with home advantage.  However our lads will not give up and an early goal in the second leg could make all the difference.

Utds squad all played: Alex Good, Alan Hurley, Ian Martin, Ciaran Lenenhan, Callum McCarthy, Cian O'Brien Josh Good, Christopher Bowes, Jack McDonnell, William Kenneally and Stephan Murphy

Academy Games
Our U10  Yellows travelled to Lismore and all players took part.  Scorers here were Tadgh McCormack, Danny Power and Ben Sheehan who grabbed two.  Well done boysand girls.
Utd: Darragh O'Brien, Ben Sheehan, Tadgh McCormack, Niamh Spillane, Sean Murphy, Paul Henley, Aiden Murphy, Danny Power.

Our U10 Blues took on Lismore in the second game.  Joseph McDonnell and Alex Good were our scorers here.
Utd: Shay Pratt, Joseph McDonnell, Billy Murphy, Isaac Almeida, Lucy Donnelly, Garoid Hynes, Adam Pratt, Alex Good.
Thanks to the parents for bringing the boys and girls to the game.

Our U8 team played at home on the Astra turf and had a terrific gamfe against Cappoquin.
Our scorers here were Ryan Whelan 8, Harry Power 2, and Lee Guildea 1.
Utd: Ryan Whelan, Harry Power, Michael Murphy, Joseph Mangan, George Sealy, Lee Guildea.

Speedy Recovery
To Michael Curley of our Premier team who had a mishap on Friday.  We wish Michael a speedy recovery.  Also Kieran Casey who is out injured at the moment.

Birthday Greetings
To Keith Hallahan who celebrated his birthday on Friday night last.  A big crowd enjoyed the night and I will say no more.  Not forgetting one of our Kennedy Cup squad Cian Hurley who was 14 years on Monday last.  And to Paddy Martin who celebrated his birthday on Sunday evening last.  Sorry we missed the party but we were at his 40th Ha! Ha!

Sympathy
The club extends its deepest sympathy to The O'Rourke family Clasmore on the sad passing of Jimmy.  May he rest in peace.

Mixed Results for United

Both our U12's and U14's were in action on Saturday last and we had a mixed bunch of results.  Our U12's won in Kilworth while our U14's went down at home in the cup to East Cork side Inch.
Aura Leisure Centre Youghal U12 League
Kilworth Lions 0 Brideview Utd. 7

A strong performance here from our U12 side away to North Cork side Kilworth Owen Potter grabbed a hat trick here with Calum McCarthy (2) Jack McDonnell (1) and Stephen (1) also on target for Utd.
However this was a real team effort on Saturday last with all the boys playing their part.  Well done boys.

Utd. Alex Gtood, Alan Hurley, Ian Martin, Ciarán Lenehan, Josh Good, Cian O'Brien, Calum McCarthy, Stephen Murphy, Jack McDonnell, Owen Potter.

DB Sports Tours Cup
Brideview Utd 2 Inch 4
This cup game was keenly fought between two sides going flat out for  win.  As both sides pressed forward gaps appeared in their defence and the forwards took advantage of this with teh result we had six great goals.

Sadly for Brideview the East Cork side Inch grabbed four goals to run out winners and so advance to the next round of the cup.  We wish them well.  Mark Dalton was the scorer of Utd's two goals, so well done to Mark.

Utd's Squad: Shane Martin, Cian O'Brien, Darragh Spillane, Cian Hurley, Alan Hurley, Owen Potter, Tom Dalton, Eolan Costello, Calum McCarthy, Jake O'Brien, Ethan Scotton, Mark Dalton.

We were short some players here but our thanks to all the U12 players who stepped in.

Late Kathleen Sice RIP:

Tallow GAA club extends deepest sympathy to the Sice family on the sad passing of Mrs Kathleen Sice over the Christmas period. For many years the Ladies Committee as it was then known, was the driving force behind fundraising activities for the club, and  in particular our underage teams. Kathleen Sice was a key member of this committee, a tireless worker and constant supporter of Tallow school and club teams wherever they played.  Her family wore the club colours with distinction on the field of play and continue to give valued support. She was of a generation whose loyalty to club and community was unstinting and irreplaceable. As a mark of respect and appreciation club members and pupils of Scoil Mhuire formed a guard of honour at her funeral and the club flag was flown at half mast. With the passing of time, the contribution of Kathleen Sice and others of her generation is often overlooked and not given due recognition. In the annals of our club history she will be fondly remembered.  Ar dheis lamh De go raibh si.

Comhbhron:
We wish to extend sympathy to Agnes Curley and family on the death of her brother Tommy Whelan
To the family and friends of Tom Cotter, Conna.
To the O Brien family Curraglass on the sad passing of Helen O Brien.
To the Grey family on the death of John Grey, late of Barrack Street.

Get Ready Lads:
We thank all of our management teams of 2016 who worked tirelessly in preparation of club teams for championship. As any volunteer in any organisation or club will tell you it can often be a thankless job- you wouldn’t be at it if you were looking for thanks. I have tremendous respect and regard for those who step up to the plate. 2017 brings new challenges for all of us. We drive on with renewed vigour and determination! We rally to the cause yet again! We have new management teams at junior and senior level and if you’ve nothing positive to offer in support of them and our players then maybe you should apply for a visa to North Korea. Basically we all need to step up our game!

We wish all our members and supporters at home and abroad a Happy New Year.

Sponsors:
We would like to thank McGraths Pharmacy and Kearney’s Restaurant and Catering for their continued support.

Better display from our lads

Brideview Utd's teams had a blank weekend but our U16 Interleague team were in action in Tallow on Sunday afternoon and for the second week in a row they went under to South Tipperary.

We had two players in action in Roscrea on Sunday last with the W.W.E.C. U13 squad.  Shane Martin was in goal while Jake O'Brien scored a cracker of a goal.  Well done boys.

Result:
U16 Interleague Subway Championship
W.W.E.C League 3 South Tipperary 7
A high scoring game here with our lads taking the lead,  Tipperary coming back and going in front with the last kick of the first half.
Johnny Tobin Allen was our scorer in this half and we went in at the break behind by just 2-1.
Tipperary scored twice in the 49th and 50th minutes before Nathan Born, shot low to the net to make it 4-2.  South Tipp, restored their three goal advantage in the 60th minute before Pauul Delaney chipped the keeper to leave the score 5-3.

Senior Hurling
Tallow 1-11 Mount Sion 0-14.

Tallow senior hurlers played Mount Sion on Sunday last in what turned out to be their last game of the season. They went in to this game needing a win or a draw at least to avoid a relegation battle. Mount Sion opening the game with a point after just one minute. Twenty five minutes into the game Mount Sion led by 2 points but Thomas Daly wasn't long wiping out the lead when he connected on a shot by Thomas Ryan to find the back of Sion's net. Mount Sion responded with a point and the sides were level as the first half drew to a close. Tallow 1-5 Mount Sion 0-8. Again Mount Sion opened the second half with a point after just 43 seconds. Ryan Grey pointed a free to ensure there was nothing between the teams. Frees seemed to be the order of the day, especially in the second half with Grey knocking over 5 points from placed balls. Ironically the only score from play in the second half was the very last puck to level the game. This ball came from the stick of the experienced James Murray. Final score Tallow 1-11 Mount Sion 0-14. We would like to thank the players and management for all of their work during the year and we look forward to the 2017 season.

Brideview Utd. AFC Schoolboy/Schoolgirl U16 League:

Home win for United
Blackwater United 3 Clashmore Ramblers 2

A five goal thriller here and the game was in the melting pot right up to the final whistle.  Blackwater made up of players from Brideview Utd. and Cappoquin overcame a strong challenge from the visitors.
With five clubs from the W.W.E.C. involved in the division it should be an interesting league.  It is also hoped to have a cup competition with clubs from the TSSDL league which should keep the clubs busy for the season.

Back to the game, Utd took the lead in the 6th minute when Cunningham set up Fogarty to score.  Wright and Lommano both went close to adding to this goal but both were just wide.  Ramblers struck for an equaliser after 15mins but in the 20th minute Wright restored Utd's lead with a fine goal.  Fogarty was unlucky in the 30th minutewhen his fine volley came back off the post and the sides went in at the break with Utd leading 2-1.

An early goal for Utd scored by Mark Dalton put Utd on the road to victory here in Tallow on Tuesday night of last week.  The game itself was keenley fought with both sides creating chances.  Utds keeper Shane Martin twice denied Lismore in the opening half while at the other end Eaton Scotton, Jake O'Brien, Cian Hurley and Tom Dalton all went close to increasing Utds lead.  However at the break Dalton's goal seperated the sides.  The other twin Tom Dalton got on the scoresheet in the 49th min but the visitors tried hard to find a way against a strong Utds defence of Roche, Hurley and Costello.  Midfielders The Dalton brothers, Tom and Mark, Alex O'Dowd and Alan Hurley made sure there was plenty of ball going into O'Brien and Scotton who tormented the visitors defence.  A good win here for Utd to add to that orher victory in Ardmore.

McGrath and Dalton on Fire
Yes our U17 team had another terrific win in Cappoquin with our twin strikers on fire, scoring all seven goal between them.  Our U12 team travelled to Kilworth and were unlucky to go down against the homeside.

U12 Premier League
Kilworth Celtic 2 Brideview Utd 0
This was a very good game of football between two sides hoping to do well this season.  The first half saw the homeside go in front and they held this lead till the break.  Utd tried hard to get back on level terms in the second half with Stephan Murphy, Taylor Twohig and Aidan Murphy all going close.  As we know when a team is chasing an equaliser gaps can be left at the back and Celtic took advantage on a quick breakaway and grabbed a second to run out winners and bring Utds winning run to an end.

Utd: A.Good, J. McDonnell, J. Morrissey, L. Tobin, Kuba Grizdo, S. Murphy, B. Murphy, T. Twohig, C. Henley, B. Grey, J. Henley, A. Cantwell.

U17 League
Cappoquin 2 Brideview Utd 7
Again no shortage of goals here.  Our twin strike force of eoin Mc Grath and Mark Dalton were on top form on Saturday scoring all seven goals between them.  Mc Grath hit four while Dalton grabbed a hat trick.  The homeside went into an early lead after just 4 min when some slack work by Utds defence left the homeside in for a rather soft goal.  As the half wore on Utd come more into the game.  Mc Grath scored the equaliser in the 31st min and Dalton added number two for Utd in the 42nd min.  This goal saw Utd to in leading 2-1 at the break.  Utd added two more goals inside the opening 10 minutes of the second half.  The first from Dalton and the second from Mc Grath.  Mc Grath was in again in the 68th min with Dalton grabbing his hat trick after 73 min.  Cappoquin pulled a goal back from the penalty spot in the 75th min.  Mc Grath rounded off the scoring in the 77th min when he scored his fourth goal.  A good win for Utd here that sees them on top of the league but there is a long road ahead.

It's Busy off the Field

Many of the boys and girls are away on holidays at the moment so it's a case of everything happening off the field at the moment, although our junior players will be back in action in three weeks time.  Our shcoolboys club have yet to have it's AGM which has run late this year.  I will have a date for next weeks notes.

Best Wishes

To the Woodview Park Residents Association who are having a re-union this coming week-end.  Hopefully the weather will stay fine and that everyone has a great week-end, especially those who are coming home from England and America.

Many of our Premier team were under the thumb on Saturday night and when they were told to jump, the lads jumped.  Ken and Michael got a good laugh over this.

Manchester United v Sampdoria

Some local fans will be heading for this game when these notes appear.  We hope the game is an enjoyable one.

The Blues

Many locals attended the R.S.C. in Waterford on Friday night last.  More and more fans from the West are now heading for Waterford for the home games, and with Waterford FC nine points ahead with six games remaining.  The Blues also got a home draw in the cup, we will have more on this in the weeks ahead.

Awards Night In Tallow
The W.W.E.C. League will have their awards night in The Community Centre Tallow on this Saturday night next at 8 o'clock sharp.  It should be a good night for both the league and the boys and girls involved in getting their awards.  The referees play a big part in nominating the players but the league committee may add a player expecially the girls for next Satuday night.

League Teams for Next Season
The club hopes to have teams in the U12, 13, 14 and 16 leagues next season.  However this will depend on managers going forward for these teams.  Anyone interested in giving a handout please give your name to either Brian or Clive.  Our U16 team might find it difficult to find 15/18 players for the comming season. It could be a very young side.  However time will tell.

The Three Amigios
Now are they going for a trial in spain I wonder.  I doubt it one of the lads said.  Mayve they are going cleaning boots and washing jersey's said he with a laugh.  Anyway we wish Eoin McGrath, Diarmuid Costello and Kieran Crawford the best of luck with Real Madrid and hopefully they will get signed up for something.

Congratulations
To Karen McCormack and Liam Whelan who got married on Saturday last.  Best wishes for a long and happy future.

Good Attendance at AGM
The W.W.E.C. Schoolboy/Girl AGM took place at Clancys bar in Tallow on Friday night last with just two clubs missing.  Chairman Brian Donnelly welcomed everyone to the meeting and in his address he stated the leagues would commence in September which he felt would give clubs a chance to have their plauers back in school.  Liam Fraser read the notes of the last AGM while outgoing PRO fixtures sec. Vinny Coonan also addressed the meeting.  The treasurer Declan Barron was the hero of the night when he stated the league was in the black.  This was due in the main to sponsorship and fines being paid on time by the clubs.  There was also and increase in players registration.  Last of season saw a big increase in our academies and this argues well for the future.

Election of Officers
Sadly not too many new faces here for next year with Keith Hornibrook taking over as PRO for the new season. Chairman: Brian Donnelly, Secretary: Tom Power, Treasurer: Declan Barron, Register: Clive Good, Fixture Sec: Clashmore, Child Welfare Officer and SFAI delegate: Liam Fraser.

Leagues for Next Season
This drew much debate and I'm sure much more will be said before the leagues for next seson will be sorted.  The committee were trying to sort out some of the problems of last year especially with both the U15 and U16 leagues.  Were the clubs listening now I wonder.  Much debate lies ahead.

Referees
Referees will be a big problem in the season ahead with much work going on in the background.  What is certain is that we will have some new referees fo next season many of them young and the committee will be making sure the clubs will be giving these new referees every chance of doing there job.l

Awards Night
Next Saturday night our awards night takes place in The Community Centre in Tallow.  We will have guests from both Waterford FC and Cork City on the night.  This night proved to be a big success in Ardmore last season and hopefully it will be the same on Saturday night.

A Community effort in Tallow
The opening of Leonard Fraser Park took place on Saturday last in brilliant sunshine with a huge crowd present. The grounds, the clubhouse and car park looked very well thanks to the great work put in by the committee and a large number of people not involved in the club but who gave a hand over the last few weeks.

The light refreshments which were served up in the clubhouse went down a treat.  Here again the ladies came up trumps with sandwiches, caked and buns.

DB Sports Tours Cup Finals

Heartbreak in Cobh
The only way to describe last weekend was crazy.  Friday night cup finals in Cobh, Saturday was academy day in Castlelyons plus jobs in Brideview Park, Sunday morning the junior game versus Kilworth Celtic, the auction in The Corner House Sunday night and then on Monday it was back to Cobh for the clubs U12 and U16 Cup Finals.  Our two finals on Monday saw our U12 side go down to a very stong Lismore team but for our U16 side it was a real hearthbreak going down to Kilwort Celtic after a penalty shootout.

DB Sport Tours U16 Cup Final
Kilwort Celtic 3 Blackwater Utd 3 (after extra time)  Penalties Kilwort Celtic 5 Blackwater utd 4.
This was a game that had everthing and the pity of it was that one team had to lose.  A game of six goals plus three mor e that were disallowed and plenty of excellent football ketp the large crowd on their toes right till the final whistle.  Celtic went in front in the 3rd min but Byrne almost had the equaliser in the 11th min but he shot wide after beating the defence.  Chambers was denied by the keeper in the 14th min.  However the sides were level in the 17th min when Lomano shot home from close range.  Fives had a header which came back off the post while Robbie O'Connor brought off a terrific save in the 33rd min.  Sheehan was denied by Celtic's keeper in the 37th min when it looked a certain goal.  So half time saw the sides level at 1-1.
The second half was end to end.  Fogarty passed to Lommano but the latter shot wide from close range.  Then Utd went in front for the first time when a great ball rom Fives went in over the defence and Fogarty  was in to chip the ball over the advancing keeper.  It looked as if Utd would hold on but with just four minutes remaining  Kilworth grabbed an equaliser to send the game to extra time.

Extra Time.  The first period of extra time failed to fing the net as the heat began to play a part with tired legs.  Two ninutes into the second period of ectre time Cunningham was broutht down in the box and Fives stepped up and shot home to put Utd in front.  It was short lived as with just 3 minutes of extra time remaining Celtic again equalised.  Time ran out for both teams and it was left to a penalty shootout to see who would bring home the cup.

Penalty Shootout.  The penalties were well taken and Kilworth ran out winners 5-4.  Down but not out said Utds manager Sham.  All the players game 100% throughout the season and all the players cna hold their heads up high.
Utd's Squad: R. O'Sullivan, J. Chambers, J. Osborne, D. Beecher, E. Mansfield, L. Lommano, G. Fives, E. Walsh, J. Sheehan, M. Fogarty,
D. Byrne, J. Almeida, W. Cunningham, C. Hurley, K. O'Connor, N. Smith, B. Wright.
Best wishes to Bernard Wright who got injured in the warmup.

DB Sport tours U12 Cup Final, Lismore 6 Brideview Utd 0
Lismore were 3-0 up after 14 minutes with all three goals comming in the 10th, 13th and 14th minutes.  However Utd came more into the game after this with keeper Alex Good brining off some marvellous saves and his defence keeping Lismore forwards at bay.  So Lismore went in at the break leading 3-0.
Utd held firm for the opening twenty minutes of the second half and Murphy, Kenneally and McCarthy all going close.  However Lismore again scored three more times in the space of six minutes and ran out winners.
However our lads kept trying and never gave up.  Utds squad. A. Good, J. Mc Donnell, C. McCarthy, T. Twohig, C. Henley, I. Martin, A. Hurley, C. O'Brien, E. Potter, S. Murphy, W. Kenneally, C. Lenehan, C. Bowes, J. Good

Thanks
To al the  parents who travelled to the game as well as the grandparents.  The weather for once was terrific and everyone enjoyed themselves. While I am thanking people and I'm sure Dominic will do that in the junior notes I would like to thank the girls for selling the tickets at the auction which was a hugh success.

Academy Awards
The awards night could to back into late June this yeafr as with First Communions going on every Saturday for the next three or four weeks its going to be hard to pick a  Saturday.  The night itself will take place in the The Tallow Community Centre this year but when.  As they say watch this space.

Utd Reach The Trial:  Clashmore Ramblers 0 Blackwater United 5
The last time United visited Clashmore the homeside ran out easy winners. The visitors were in no form for repeat performance. Playing with a strong wind Utd took the game to the homeside. After just 5 minutes we took the lead. Wright beat two defenders before sending in a great ball for Lommano to finish to the net. Lommano made it 2-0 after 10 minutes.  Walsh and Sheehan both shot wide from close range before Wright himself got on the scoresheet with a great volley in the 36th minute. At the break Utd led 3-0.  Utd continued to take the game to Ramblers in the second half. Sheehan, Fives and Wright continued to torment Ramblers defence before Walsh had a fine shot that came back off the post after 66 minutes.  The fourth goal arrived in the 74th min when a Lommano cross was headed home by Fives, Wright wrapped up the scoring in the 75th min and Utd advanced to the cup final.  We now face Kilworth Celtic in the final in what should be a terrific final.

Utd squad all played: Robert O Connor, Jake Chambers, Dylan Byrne, Evan Mansfield, Dean Beecher, William Cunningham, Gavin Fives, Josh Sheehan, Eddie Walsh, Bernard Wright, Louie Lommano, Nathan Smith, Joas Almeida, Jamie O Hara, Killian O Connor, Cian Hurley.

Well Done
To Utds Shane Martin and Joke O'Brien who played for the U13 Interleague team in Waterford on Sunday last.  Both of these lads have put in a tremendous effort in training and played very well on sunday last.  we wish the lads the best of luck on sunday when they face Cork and Waterford.  Not forgetting Ciaran Lenenhan and Eoin Potter who are on duty with the U12 Interleague team.  Best wishes to all the boys this weekend.

Terrific Displays from Interleague Team
Despite the shocking weather and the games being swithched from Cappoquin to the Astro pitches in Carriganore our U13 Interleague team put in two marvellous displays.
We defeated West Cork and drew with South Tipperary.  The manager and his assistants were pleased with the displays and Dec Barron Snr, Dec Barron Jnr, Tim Mc Gann and staff were delighted after the games.
However next Sunday is a difficult one for the lads as they face Waterofrd and Cork.  Cork sit on top of the table and they will be difficult to beat. With an early goal for our lads who knows what will happen.

Results: Subway U13 Interleague championship.  West cork 0, W.W.E.C. League 2.
A cracker of a game with both of our goals comming in teh opening half from Jack Murphy 8th min and Rory Tobin Allen 24th Min.  Our lads did play with a very strong wind in this opening half but they held firm in the second half.  Our lads could have added a few more goals in the opening half.  Adain Mansfield had a great header taken off the line with the keeper beaten.  Billy McGann brought off a terrific save from the West Cork keeper in the 22nd min and the same player shot wide from close range before our second goal came.
Team: S Martin, S O'Connor, M O'Mahony, A Mansfield, E McGrath, K Sheridan, D Sheehan, R Tobin Allen, J Murphy, K O'Neill, B McGann. Brought on in this game were, Conor Meade, David Barry, Alex Bowes and Jake O'Brien.

Result:W.W.E.C. League 1, South Tipperary 1.
Another close game and again we played with the strong wind in the opening half.  Jack Murphy again opened the scoring after just 5 min and we held this lead till the break.
The second half was keenly fought and we were still 1-0 in front with just 5 min remaining when South Tipp broke through to equalise.  Both sides did their best to grab a winner but it was not to be and so the points were shared.

W.W.E.C. League: S Martin, S O'Connor, M O'Mahoney, A Mansfield,  A Bowes, B Stuart, E McGrath, K Sheridan, D Sheehan, R Tobin Allen, J Murphy.  Brought on: C Meade, R Mansfield, G Swayne, D Barry.  We also had players who did not get a run and these were M Callan, C Doolan, F Scanlan, N Floanaghan, A O'Connor, W O'Driscoll, C Foley, F Coakley.  I hope I have not left anyone out if i did please accept my apologies.

Next Weeks Games
At the moment they are on in Carriganore Waterford.

Home win for United.
U14 Results: Brideview Utd 4, Valley Rangers 2,
A good win here for Utd.  Goals from Tom Dalton (1), Eathan Scotton (1), and a terrific free kick from Cian Hurley saw Utd clinch all three points.  Many of the squad turned in marvellous performances.  Keeper Shane Martin was outstanding while his defence of Alan Hurley,
Stephan Roche, Cian Hurley and Darragh Spillane were in great form giving the Rangers front men few chances. Our midfielders of Alex O'Dowd
Mark Dalton, Eolan Costello and Eathan Scotton made sure our front two of Tom Dalton and Jake O'Brien got plentyfull supply of th ball and Danny McCarthy Thompson and Cian O'Brien tormented the Valley defences when interduced.  So well done lads and keep up the good work.

Utd: S Martin, A Hurley, C Hurley, D Spillane, S Roche, A O'Dowd, M Dalton, E Costello, E Scotton, T Dalton, J O'Brien, D McCarthy Thompson and C O'Brien.

New Year Greetings
From all in Utd we wish our players, parents, guardians, sponsors and supporters a very happy and prosperous New Year.  We are glad to report that Santa came to all the boys/girls in Tallow and surrounding areas.  Everyone was good, lets keep it up for 2017.

Birthday Greetings
To young Jake Neville who celebrated his 19th Birthday over the Christmas Holidays.  This weekend Clair Maguire will celebrate her birthday as well as Noel "The Gal" Tobin.  Best wishes from all in Utd.

Sympathy
The holiday period brought sadness to many families.  Our sympathy to The Sice family of Woodview Park on the sad passing of Kathleen.  May she rest in peace.  Sympathy also to The Whelan Family Lismore and The Curley family of New St on the sad passing of Tommy Whelan.  May he rest in peace.  Sympathy to The Grey Family Barrack St on the sad passing of John.  May he rest in peace.  Sympathy to The O'Brien family of Curraglass, conna on the sad passing of Helen.  May she rest in peace.  To the Roby family of lismore on the sad passing of Josie.  May she rest in peace.

Blackwater Motors Fermoy u16 League

Defeat in Kilworth
Blackwater suffered a 1-0 defeat away in Kilworth on Saturday afternoon last and now sees up to four clubs involved in what should be a real thrilling finish to this league in the new year. We had two players with the U12 development squads who drew with Kilkenny on Sunday last namely Ciarán Lenehan and Eoin Potter adn i am told both did very well.  Well done boys.

U16 Result:
Kilworth Celtic 1 Blackwater Utd. 0

A win here for Utd. would hyave put them top of the league but it was not to be and the league is now wide open between four clubs.  Fogarty tested celtics keeper in teh 12th minute however Beecher cleared off the line to keep Utd. in the game, O'Connor brought off a great save in the 28th minute so chances fell to both sides.  The only goal of the game came for Celtic after a good move in the 36th minute.
Wright put fogarty through in the 39th munite but his effort went just outside teh post and the homeside went in leading 1-0 at the break.
Both sides tried hard in the second half and Utd did up the pace of the game.  O'Connor and Fogarty both went close to getting Utd. back on level terms but Kilworth's keeper denied them.

Santa Draws the Crowds

Santa was a very busy man on Saturday last with almost 130 children visiting him.  The club bring Santa to the Community Centre every year and the children really look forward to his annual visit.  Sometimes I think the parents enjoy Santa's visit as much as the children do!.

Thanks
The club would like to thank Santa himself for giving up his time at this very busy time of year, and coming to visit us here in Tallow.  Tallow firebrigade and driver Martin Sheehan for making sure Santa arrived on time.  The Tallow Community Centre Committee for the use of the hall, the local D.J. Brian Power and the Utd. Schoolboy/girl committee who made it possible.  Happy Christmas to everyone.

Quiet on the field
The weekend was a bland one on the field due to Santa's visit and U12 Interleague and U16 Inter League games going ahead on Sunday. Ciaran Lenehan was involved with the U12's while Dean Beecher and Jake Chambers were with the U16 squad.

Birthday Greetings
To one of our star U16 players namely Joas Almeida who celebrated his 15th birthday on Sunday last, hope you had a great day Joas from all in Utd.

Dalton Hits Four
Utds U14 team got back to winning ways on Saturday last with a win over Cappoquin.
Blackwater Utd has some players on trial for the U16 Inter League and twenty of these players turned up in Tallow on Sunday morning from a variety of leagues clubs.

U14 League Result: Brideview Utd 4, Cappoquin 1
The visitors took the lead here after just 2 minutes.  Utd tried to get back on level terms and Jake O’Brien, Tom Dalton, Alex O’Dowd and Ethan Scotton all went close to grabbing an equaliser.  Then after 35 minutes Mark Dalton was brought down in the box and brother Tom stepped up and shot home from the penalty spot to put the side’s level 1-1 at the break.
Utd’s keeper Shane Martin denied Cappoquin almost from the kick off.  Dalton put Utd 2-1 in front in the 48th min and increased this lead to 3-1 in the 55th min and increased this lead to 3-1 in the 55th min when a marvellous free kick from Cian Hurley came back off the post and Dalton was first to react and score from close range.  Utds defence of Alan Hurley, Stephan Roche, Cian Hurley and Darragh Spillane kept visitors attacks under control while midfielders Alex O’Dowd, Mark Dalton, Eolan Costello and Eathan Scotton kept a good supply of ball going into our front two of Tom Dalton and Jake O’Brien.  Danny McCarthy Thompson and Cian O’Brien played their par when they came on in the second half.  Dalton had the final say in this game with his fourth goal in the 63rd min.  A good win here for our lads which must keep Liam, Andy and Ben happy.

Utd’s Squad: S. Martin, A. Hurley, S. Roche, D. Spillane, C. Hurley, A. O’Dowd, M. Dalton, E. Costello, E. Scotton, T. Dalton, J. O’Brien, D. McCarthy Thompson.

On Trial
Jake Chambers, Dean Beecher and Fionn Hagon are on trial for the U16 Inter League team.  The U16 Inter League team will take on Corkbeg in Cappoquin on this Thursday night at 7.30pm.  This should give manager Will Gillman a chance to see some new players in action.

Sad news indeed on Sunday last when news of the sudden death of Anthony Foley one of Munster’s and Irelands greatest rugby players.  At such a young age it has shocked sports fans.  Our sympathy to his wife and family.  May he rest in peace.

Points Shared in Local Derby
Our U16 team travelled to take on our neighbours Lismore under lights in Cappoquin and after a real thriller the sides shared the points.  Our U11 academy travelled to Mogeely on Saturday evening last and ran out winners after a terrific match.

Stephen Murphy grabbed a hat trick for himself here on Saturday last, Our U14 team suffered a heavy defeat away to Inch on Sunday last.

U16 League Blackwater Utd. 1 Lismore 1
A real thriller here between these local clubs and both sets of players were able to hold ther heads high as they headed to school on Wednesday morning. Utd's keeper O'Connor saved well in the 10th minute and was called upon again in the 22nd minute to keep this side in the game.
Mansfield made a terrific run in the 25th minute before putting Walsh through but the Lismore keeper denied him.  Fives shot wide in the 28th minute before Utd took the lead in the 34th minute from the penalty spot.  Captain Bernard Wright stepped up to give Lismore keeper no chance.  This was the only goal of the first half.  Both sides had chances in the second half before Lismore were back on level terms in the 58th min.  Mansfield, Fogarty, Wright and Fives all went close for Utd but as the final whistle sounded the sides had to settle for a share of the points.  This is a very tight league and while its early days yet it could go down to the wire before we get a winner.  There is much to play for here in the months ahead.
Utds panel and all played even if two only got very little playing time.  R. O'Connor, J. Chambers, E. Mansfield, D. Costello, D. Beecher, G. Fives, F. Hogan, E. Walsh, L. Lommano, B. Wright, M. Fogarty, J. O'Hara, K. O'Connor, E. Lenehan, D. Byrne, J. Almeida, W. Cunningham, J. Sheehan.

U11 League Hat trick for Murphy
Stephan Murphy grabbed a hat trick in Mogeely on Saturday last with Joseph Mc Donnell also getting himself on the scorsheet.  Well done lads.
Utds Squad and all played:  A. Good, J. McDonnell, L. Tobin, H. Hagan Lee, G. Hynes, D. Bowes, T. Twohig, S. Murphy, J. Morrissey, J. Henley.  B.Grey.

U 14 League Inch 8 Brideview Utd 0
Our U14 side travelled to Inch on Sunday afternoon short some regulars and the homeside proved too strong for our lads.
Utds Squad:  S. Martin, A. O'Dowd, J. O'Brien, A. Hurley, E. Costello, I. Martin, D. McCarthy Thompson, E. Scotton, S. Roche, C. Hurley, D. Spillane.  Man of the Match: Shane Martin.
