Junior Football Quarter Final Tallow 1-11 Geraldines 2-10.

In sweltering twenty degree heat we engaged in knockout football on Saturday afternoon last. The Indian summer had arrived and we got off to a good start with good interplay between Darragh Mulcahy and Jordan Henley set up the meandering Jake Beecher who curled over a delightful first point with less than a minute gone. The next few scores over the following five minutes were all frees and we accounted for one of these from Ryan Grey. It was noticeable however on that physicality of this game was up a notch or two from our previous encounter and there was no easy ball here. The pressure that we had on our kickers meant we had an increasing wides tally and it wasn't until the 17th minute that we troubled the scoreboard after a lung bursting run from Jordan, he offloaded to Ryan who scored a nice point. Ryan converted another free seven minutes later and we trailed by the minimum after 24 minutes 0-4 to 0-5. Great work again by Jordan set up Darragh Mulcahy for a goal chance that we spurned. A minute to go in the half and Ryan curled over a lovely free on the left hand side of goal about thirt five meters out but disaster struck as Geraldines scored a goal just on the conclusion of the half and we trailed at half time by four points, Tallow 0-5 Geraldines 1-6.

Two alterations were made in the second half with Dean coming in  corner back and Tommy coming in corner forward. Robbie Geary positioned himself manning the square and gave a powerful second half performance. Ryan adding to his tally with a good hard worked point. He beat two men before kicking over from his right in a central position, He had another goal opportunity on the 37th minute but Jake's effort was saved. There was heated exchanges and it threatened to spill over at times. Bob McCarthy turned into a human battering ram and was hitting off fellas that moved or threatened to move. Jordan ran himself into the ground, he got some hard hits (fair I might add) and did one somersault that a Russian gymnast would be proud of over the railing.
