Junior Football Championship: Tallow 1-07 Old Parish 1-08
Just when they looked to have sealed their place in the semi-finals, Tallow were denied in the last minute when Old Parish were awarded a penalty, which they converted to end Tallow's involvement in this years junior football championsip. Tallow had earlier been denied a penalty in an almost identical situation involving an illegal foot block.
it really was a game of two halves! Tallow played poorly in the first half but did enough in the second half to merit a narrow victory, there was very little in it either way. We wish Old Parish the best.
It wasn't inspiritn fare to be honest, with just two points in the first half from Mikey Curley. Old Parish were clearly the better team and were six points ahead at the break. It was hard to see how they could lose the game at this point.
An improved second half performance from Tallow in the second half with the introduciton of Jordan Henley gave us added impetus and mobility in attack. He opened the scoring for Tallow with a well taken point and Mikey added two more frees to reduce the deficit to a single score. Old Parish had a point of their own before a Paul O'Brien goal put Tallow in the lead for the first time.
Mikey slotted over his 5th point and Keiran Geary another to put Tallow clear by 2 into the final minute. Just like Tallow in the first half Old Parish had only registered 2 points in the second half but the penalty changed everything and decided the outcome.
For his intelligent link play and accuracy from frees Mikey Curley merits the man of the match award. Our thanks to the players, management, secretary Lindsay and medical officer Joanne Kearney for their efforts.
