Brideview Utd AFC Notes

The O'Rourke Family League (Youths)

Utd are League champions

The curtain finally came down on the local soccer season on Sunday morning last after what has been a long season for all involved in football.

We are glad to have been involved in the final game of the season especially as we won the Youth League. We scored eleven goals on our final Cup and League game which must be a record.

Result: Youth O'Rourke Family League

Brideview Utd 5 Cappoquin-Railway 3

A high scoring game here again. The visitors went in front in the 5th minute but Chambers pulled back an equaliser before Crawford was brought down in the box and McGrath scored 2 after just 7 minutes. McGrath put Utd two goals up when he shot low to the net. Cappoquin-Railway grabbed a second goal in the 32nd minute. Utd led 3-2 with the half time whistle coming up but again the visitors scored to send both teams in at the break level at 3-3.

Our keeper Eolan Costello brought off two good saves early in the second half. Crawford twice tested the visitors keeper but he twice denied Crawford with two great saves.

A Crawford free in the 61st minute saw the ball end up in the corner of the net giving the Cappoquin/Railway keeper no chance. Mark Stewart rounded off the scoring the in the 82nd minute to put Utd 5-3 in front. The visitors tried hard to pull a goal back but Costello again denied them with two good scores.

So Utd win the League for the second year running. Well done to all the lads for providing some excellent entertainment over the Cup Final and League playoff.

Manager Happy

Manager Steven "The Bear" Pratt was in better form Sunday morning after the win and felt the boys upped their game from their Cup Final the previous Thursday. A good bunch of lads attend  Pratt and many of these players will be making up our Junior teams in the season ahead.
